Installing the Windows agent
How to download the MSI, install the agent and confirm the device is online.
Download and install
Section titled “Download and install”The Windows agent links a PC to your Darnet company. Download the MSI from the panel — it is bound to your tenant so the device lands in the right place.
- In the RMM panel find agent download / installer (MSI) and download the file.
- On the target PC run the MSI as administrator.
- Finish setup and confirm the agent service is running.
- Wait a few minutes for the first heartbeat to the server.
- The PC needs internet access to your instance (e.g. monitoring.darnet24.pl).
- Corporate antivirus may need exclusions — if the installer “disappears”, check AV.
Verify: is it online?
Section titled “Verify: is it online?”Success = the device appears on Endpoints with online status. Open details and check that metrics / system info populate. The endpoints list refreshes the status LED on its own — you do not need F5.
- Open the device list in RMM and wait for the first heartbeat (usually within a minute).
- Find the new PC by hostname.
- Open the card — online status and fresh activity mean a good rollout.
- At the bottom of the Endpoints list you set how many rows appear per page (25 / 50 / 100).
- Offline right after install: wait, check network, restart the agent service, use diagnostic logs in the panel.
- One test PC before mass rollout saves time.
- Agent version “Worker missing” /
missing: Watchdog is online, the Worker file (RMMAgent.exe) is gone — usually after an auto-update alert (verify_failed). SNMP, backup and scripts on that host stop. On the PC:C:\ProgramData\RMMAgent\update\watchdog-apply-*.logandC:\Program Files\RMMAgent\worker\previous. Restorepreviousor reinstall the MSI.
After install — groups and more devices
Section titled “After install — groups and more devices”Once the first device works, reuse the same MSI on more PCs. Then group them (servers / endpoints / sensitive) and set maintenance windows so updates do not reboot machines during business hours.
- From the Endpoints list: row ☰ menu → Delete endpoint; or select devices → Add to group / Remove from group (More actions: script / maintenance window / backup / delete). A device can be in several groups at once — Add does not remove the others.
- Group with “Manual restart only” = patches may install, but you trigger reboot.
- Only then enable broader alerts and backup on a stable fleet.
Deleting an endpoint
Section titled “Deleting an endpoint”Delete when the PC should leave the fleet (sold, stolen, duplicate after reinstall, end of coverage). Do not delete “for now” (repair, leave, paused contract) — there is no separate mute-monitoring button.
Delete from the list: row ☰ menu, or select + More actions → Delete endpoints. Confirm — this cannot be undone in the panel. Backup history is kept with the hostname so you can restore onto another device. On a busy server with a long metric / security-event history the list shows a “Deleting…” bar — wait for the toast and do not close the tab.
- Offline does not block panel deletion — the record goes away; the agent is not uninstalled on the PC.
- If the agent is still running, the next heartbeat may create a new device record.
- A maintenance window controls when patches / reboots may run — it is not “stop monitoring this PC”.
After a Windows OS reinstall
Section titled “After a Windows OS reinstall”A clean Windows install removes the agent and its credentials. To rejoin the same device in the panel: keep the same computer name (hostname), install the MSI for the correct company, and wait for heartbeat. Full procedure and backup restore: After a Windows OS reinstall.
- Same hostname + that company’s MSI → usually reconnects to the existing record (no duplicate).
- Different computer name → a new device; the old one stays offline.
- Restore file data separately (Backup → Restore) onto a PC with an online agent.
